Offered twice each year (summer and winter), placement exams are designed by individual academic departments to help Harvard College students select the classes that are most appropriate for their course of study. The writing and mathematics exams (summer only) are required of all incoming first-year students, but a host of other optional exams are also offered.
Advising for Fall
In light of the recent FAS announcement about Fall 2020, the placement exam website will be updated regularly as necessary. All placement exams will continue to be held remotely.
For Students Considering a Gap Year:
Students who decide to take a gap year are welcome to take placement exams during the summer of 2020. Exam results will be maintained and made available to students upon their return. Alternatively, students may wait until the summer before matriculation to take placement exams.
If you are a student and have questions about the fall, we encourage you to consult with a member of our advising team, who can connect you to appropriate resources. The College has trained a special team of advisers to help you work through specific questions you have. You can email email@example.com to connect with an adviser.
